Do You Need Sensitive Skin Care

Before we start talking about sensitive skin care it's important to establish whether or not this advice applies to you. There are many skin conditions that a sensitive skin care routine won't help - sun damage will leave your skin feeling very sensitive, as will eczema, but both of these conditions must be treated in special ways. If you're in any doubt abouth the health of your skin see your doctor or a dermatologist. Dryness, flakiness and itching to the skin can all be signs of medical conditions and if a specialised sensitive skin care routine doesn't help you need to seek professional advice.

If using regular cosmetics, cleansers and soaps cause the above symptoms then you may be suffering from sensitive skin. You may also suffer sore skin in cold winds and hot sun, and when using anythig around the house that contains chemicals (cleaning products, body sprays and perfumes). Sensitive skin can get worse with age, so don'trule out the condition just because you've never suffered from it before.

Sensitive Skin Care - What Can You Do?

Sensitive skin care is very much like regular skin care - cleanse, tone and moisturize - but you have to be careful of what products you use. Try and stay away from high end anti aging, skin rejuvenating products - they usually contain strong chemicals that your skin won't like.

It's important that you clean your skin twice a day. Never to go to bed with make-up on - this is very important when you've got sensitive skin. Your skin needs a chance to breath and recover while you get your beauty sleep so make sure it's clean of any daytime grime. As the skin regenerates over night it's important to wash in the morning as well. A gentle facial cleanser and a splash of cold water, followed by the right moisturiser, will leave you feeling fresh and awake.

If you use a toner, rather than cold water, use one that's alcohol free. Lavender and rose waters are the best options - they're natural and easy on the skin.

Take care what moisturiser you choose - as already mentioned earlier lots of moisturizers are full of chemicals and too heavy for your skin - choose something with natural ingredients, specially formulated for your type of skin, the lighter, the better.

Using sun block daily is also advised for sensitive skin - lots of natural cosmetic companies now produce sunblock so you can avoid too many chemicals, and you can often buy a combined moisturizer/sunblock.

I use the aloe vera plant myself, and it also makes great after-shave! Having a garden full of the stuff means its free, too!
